WGT 2024 recap

Usually, the WGT means almost a week of partying for us, traveling through Leipzig to multiple locations every day and meeting up with many friends and acquaintances.

Usually, I also film little recap episodes or a small vlog for my social media pages.

However, this year me and my boyfriend somehow caught a cold right before the WGT.

This was one of the main reasons I didn’t film anything this year, as I just tried to make the most of the event. I stayed comfortable (and dry!) in the same place most of the time and just took it slow to make it through the week, without getting too sick to leave the hotel.

Regardless of this, we absolutely had a fun time, saw many great bands and were happy to spend time with some of our amazing friends! –  Just a little less partying and moving around this time.

Thursday

While some of the campers already start their journey on Friday (to pre-pre-party in the parking lot), we always drive across Germany on Thursday, so we arrive in the afternoon and still have enough time to check-in at our hotel, take a break, park our car, get some food and get ready for the pre-party.

We usually go to Moritzbastei, have a drink and chat with some of our friends, before returning to the hotel at around 2 am.

Friday

On Friday, we first attended the Victorian Picnic as usual. It is a great space to hang out with friends you haven’t seen in a long time, chat, have some snacks and drinks, and, of course, take a ton of stunning pictures in beautiful outfits.

My favorite photo space was of course the pretty purple flower bushes that just fit my color palette perfectly.

We then went over to Haus Leipzig to join the Dark Electro/ Industrial concerts (Basscalate/SynthAttack, Extize, X-RX, Reaper), but well… We made a big mistake.

After the first concert, we went outside to take a break and chat with friends.

And, just how it always goes, it took longer than expected and we lost track of time. Suddenly a huge line started to form at the entrance and we realized that, well, there was an entry stop. Because everyone wanted to see X-RX. Just like the last time they were at the WGT, when I got on the wrong tram, ended up a little late at the location and didn’t get in to see them either. Because, guess what, there was an entry stop too. (Not that I never saw them live before, but the same thing at the same event happening to me twice – really? I should definitely learn to use my brain sometimes… 😅

So, we just took a tram to Agra, met up with some friends for a couple more hours, and then returned to the hotel rather early.

Saturday

Saturday was the day the symptoms of the cold really started to kick in.

We took some medication and somehow I got ready and left to go to the Agra shopping hall. While taking a walk and looking at all the cool stuff, I couldn’t help but realize, there were a lot less stores than in previous years.

Especially with smaller businesses, I noticed there were mostly designers with expensive unique pieces. Especially the small but still unique and affordable handicrafts that were sold from small creators, such as jewelry and other accessories, were something I really missed. And even bigger stores had pretty small spaces, compared to the past years.

It seemed as if half the hall was empty. WGT – Do better! We as a community need to support small businesses more!

After that I grabbed some food, met up with my boyfriend to visit the Pagan Village for a while and chat some more with friends, before returning to Agra to see Agonoize.

I was not feeling well at all that day, so I had to take another break afterwards. We then went to our car to change outfits for the Obsession Bizarr and waited for the next tram to arrive.

It was super crowded and of course we missed our stop, had to make our way back and ended up in a huge line at the entrance of the Volkspalast.

After waiting for what felt like hours (while it was cold outside, being sick already and wearing basically nothing), we managed to get in. I found a nice spot to sit and stayed there for most of the night as I didn’t have the energy to dance or move much. We could still chat with friends that walked past us and enjoy the music though.

Sunday

Sunday we were still not feeling well, so we stayed at Felsenkeller to see some awesome metal bands (mainly Enemy Inside and Sirenia), where I also found a good space to sit down between concerts and still see the stage. After 8 pm we wanted to walk over to Westbad to see Frozen Plasma and Ashbury Heights, but the line was insanely long and not moving. We decided to get some food across the street (which I couldn’t even taste thanks to the cold 🙄) and returned to Felsenkeller as it was close by and we did not want to travel through the entire city again.

Afterwards we spent a few more hours at Moritzbastei, where some of our friends joined us as well.

Monday

Monday was honestly pretty awesome, even though I was still sick and took it slow. We went to Felsenkeller where I saw Maerzfeld, Schwarzer Engel, Schattenmann and Megaherz. I love German metal/ Neue Deutsche Härte, so I was really excited for this day! My boyfriend left after a while to see some other bands at Täubchenthal and I stayed there with a friend until the end of the concerts.

At night, we went back to my hotel to have some snacks and drinks, to warm up, take a break and chat. My boyfriend meanwhile spent time with some of his friends and we later all met up at Moritzbastei for the after-party.

Somehow we stayed up until around 7am. I still don’t know how we managed to do that. 🤯

Tuesday and Wednesday

After the WGT, we usually stay another day in Leipzig just to sleep in, recover (which was much needed as we still were pretty sick!) and pack our stuff.

Getting up early to leave the hotel, when you drink the night before and stay up until only a few hours before the check-out time, is not safe at all anyways.

In the evening we went to eat Ramen at a small place near the train station together with a friend. And after a festival week, eating a full meal is one of the best things! I felt so much better afterwards!

We went to bed pretty early and left on Wednesday morning to drive home safely.

I hope any of you who also went to the WGT had an amazing time and also returned home safe and sound! 🖤
